Registration Process

Registration Information

Below is an overview of the charter school registration process. If you have already been offered a spot at HoLa for September, and have responded YES, you will receive our initial enrollment materials by mail shortly, but you will also need to follow the Hoboken district protocol for charter school registration as follows:

Step 1: Register with the Hoboken Public Schools

In order for your child to attend HoLa (or any other charter school), s/he must be registered with the public schools first.

  1. If your child currently attends a public (Abbott) preschool, elementary school or charter school in Hoboken, then s/he is already registered with the district, and you can skip down to Step 2.
  2. If your child is not currently in school or attends a private or parochial school, then you must register with the district as part of the charter school enrollment process. If you have already received an acceptance letter, this should be done during registration week February 22–26 (registration date is by first letter of last name—see Hoboken Public Schools Registration Flyer). However, if you miss registration week, or if are on the waiting list and you do not receive an acceptance letter until after then, you may make an appointment with Denise Valentin in the main office at Brandt to register any time after that: 201-356-3695 or dvalentin@hoboken.k12.nj.us.
  3. To register, you will need to bring:
    • proof of residency documents the district requires (see Hoboken Public Schools Registration Flyer)
    • completed packet of registration forms (registration packets can be picked up at any of the Hoboken public schools)
    • your letter of acceptance from HoLa.
  4. NOTE: If you live outside of Hoboken, you must register with your home district then follow district protocol for transferring to a charter school in another district.

Step 2: Obtain a Transfer Card

  1. What: Once your child has been registered with the district, you must request a transfer card in order for his/her registration and records to be transferred to HoLa. This is an essential last step!!
  2. Who: ALL HoLa students must present a transfer card from their school district of residence in order to be enrolled at the charter school, regardless of whether s/he ever attended public school in the district.
  3. When: This can only be done by appointment after the last day of public school.
  4. How: Contact Denise Valentin at 201-356-3695 or dvalentin@hoboken.k12.nj.us to make an appointment to go to the main office in the Brandt building with all of your registration, residency and acceptance documentation, and pick up the actual transfer card, which you will then send to HoLa with your other enrollment forms.
